The best sights of Madrid

Madrid is a fascinating city and there are many things to see. Here is a list of some of Madrid's most popular sights.

Museo Reina Sofia

El Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia (Reina Sofia Museum) is a museum dedicated to the art of the twentieth century and contemporary. The Reina Sofia is the southern corner known as Madrid's Art Triangle, formed by two important museums: the Prado and the Thyssen-Bornemisza.

In its permanent collection you will find a series of works by major twentieth century Spanish artists such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and Joan Miro. Surreal Art of Francis Picabia, René Magritte, Yves Tanguy and Jean Arp. Representatives of Cubism as Juan Gris, Georges Braque, Robert and Sonia Delaunay and Expressionist artists such as Francis Bacon and Antonio Saura.

Their continued growth has led it to open several branches in different parts of the capital:

Sabatini Building: current location of the museum and former Hospital of San Carlos in the eighteenth century. Named after the architect who remodeled the building Francisco Sabatini.

Nouvel Building: In 1999, an international competition calls for the extension of the Reina Sofia Museum. In 2001 starts the winning project, signed by the architect Jean Nouvel.

Crystal Palace: One of the two exhibition venues of the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid's Retiro Park. Built by Ricardo Velázquez Bosco in 1887.

Palace of Velázquez: Another exhibition venues of the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid's Retiro Park. Named after the architect Ricardo Velázquez Bosco.
