Barcelona is a fascinating city and there are many things to see. Here is a list of some of Barcelona's most popular sights.
For a good reason is the Van Gogh Museum the 23rd most visited art museum in the whole world, visited each year by 1,6 million visitors, who are coming to see the 200 exhibited paintings, 500 drawings and much more of the genius and also his contemporaries in the Impressionist and post-Impressionist movement.
The exhibition of his works is divided into different spaces, representing the different periods of Van Gogh’s life, like Nuenen (1880 - 1885) with the famous drawings “Avenue of Poplars in Autumn” and “The Potato Eaters” and Antwerp (1886) with the drawing “Skull of a Skeleton with Burning Cigarette” and as well Paris (1886 - 1888) with “Wheat Field with a Lark” and Arles (1888 - 1889) with “Bedroom in Arles” and “Sunflowers” – just to name some of Van Gogh’s masterpieces.
The building consists of two buildings: one is designed by Gerrit Rietveld and therefore called the “Rietveld building” and the other is the “Kurokawa wing”, designed by the Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa. The first building is the main building of the museum and its 4 floors host the permanent collection and as well a shop and a café on the ground floor. On the other floors the visitors can admire the work of Van Gogh chronologically and also inform themselves about restoration of the artworks. Visitors find the major temporary exhibitions on the three floors of the Kurokawa wing, which you can enter through an underground tunnel from the Rietveld building.
